Don’t dream it’s over

“Careless” and “reckless,” are words we often hear associated with young drivers. Adding to this stigmatisation are the statistics in 2013 the Department of Transport found that 17% of young car drivers that were involved in crashes were careless, reckless or in a hurry. They also found that with 16% of accidents loss of control was determined to be a contributory factor and 22% were either travelling too fast for conditions or performed a poor turn or manoeuvre we need to support younger drivers, understand and moreover inspire them to be better drivers.

We have all had moments driving down the motorway blasting our favourite Smiths record reminiscing of the good times before reaching our 9-5’s. Distractions like these could prove deadly for drivers, especially young drivers. 

According to a study conducted by Science Direct, young drivers who listen to their favourite music whilst driving are more likely to commit errors and be distracted.

IAM RoadSmart is determined to empower and promote young drivers as they are our future.  One way is by instilling knowledge and fun through groups such as the Under 17 Car Club (U17CC) and promoting IAM RoadSmart younger driver ambassadors such as Eloise Peabody-Rolf and Carli Smith (pictured below).

We hope to paint young drivers in a more positive light and make them safer drivers.  In the famous words of Formula 1 Driver Nico Rosberg “No matter how good a driver you are, you have to have the right car and the right team behind you in order to succeed.”
