Anticipation

If there is ever a need to prove that a driver has to devote all their attention to their driving here is a good example. Approaching a crossing on an empty main road, two people were having a conversation on the footpath near the crossing. What happens next is a classic!

crossing

Approaching the crossing on an empty main road, two people could be seen having a conversation on the footpath near the crossing. As can be seen from the photo, having finished talking the elderly woman then turned to cross, without thinking that the lights were green.
The car, which could have been legally travelling at 30 m.p.h. is just a short distance from the crossing as she starts to cross.
I suppose I could have turned this into the ultimate cliff-hanger by not giving you the outcome but it was all fine. With a little anticipation and a good dose of observation the driver had guessed what might happen and in fact had slowed down just in case, stopping just short of the stop line. The woman continued to cross, totally oblivious to the car's presence.
Now what would have happened if the driver had been playing with the in-car technology or phone at the time?
