Highways England WMRCC Quinton Business Park 3 Ridgeway Avenue Quinton Birmingham B32 1AF

Have you ever wondered:
  • what the term “Smart  Motorway” means
  • who or what controls the speed restriction signs and the use of the hard shoulder on the motorways?
  • what all-lane running on a motorway means?
  • what the best course of action is should you break down on a motorway?
  • what organisation is responsible for the motorways and major trunk roads?
  • what the future holds for motorway driving?

These, and other questions you may have about driving on the motorways and major roads in the UK, and in particular the West Midlands, can be answered on Sunday 8th July 2018, when Steve Price, SAM Committee Member and Highways England Traffic Officer, will be hosting another visit to the Highways England West Midlands Regional Control Centre (WMRCC) at Quinton (near M5, Junction 3). This will include tours of the control room and training rooms and a vehicle (subject to events on the day).

The visit will commence at 2:00pm, but you should aim to arrive by 1:45pm to allow time for entry to the site and parking. Please note that the visit will last for approximately 3 ½ to 4 hours. Tea/Coffee will be provided.

For operational and comfort reasons places are limited to 15 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. All SAM members are welcome to visit – full members, associates and new members. Guests (non-SAM members) are welcome subject to places being available, but members will be given precedence. Unfortunately, children are currently not permitted to visit the site.

This always proves to be a very interesting and educational experience enjoyed by all who have attended previously.
