TD Ride to Brymor Ice Cream - 14th September 2019 - Chris Otter

Posted on 20/09/19 |
12 riders grouped up for the ride briefing and after Graham had been "volunteered" for back marker duties we set off on time for what was promised to be a dry day.

Turning right out of Squires we followed a traditional route through Towton and into Tadcaster.  Over the bridge but in a change from the norm turning right at the lights heading towards Bolton Percy.  Following a circuitous route on some nice roads we 14 09 2019crossed over the A64 bridge at Bilborough Top and rode through Askham Richard on to Long Marston.  Passing through Tockwith we crossed the light controlled bridge at Cattal before turning right and heading towards the A59.

Crossing the A59 here is never easy so a left followed by a right into Whixley eased the burden, onwards across the B6265 led us to Thorpe Underwood and past the expensive Queen Ethelburgers private school.  Staying on this road takes us past the turning for the "rattly" Aldwark Bridge before making a right fork in Great Ouseburn towards High Dunsforth, we then stayed on this road into Boroughbridge and Plenty Cafe for our tea stop.  Interesting car park entrance this with an inviting drop into the river Tutt if you get it wrong! (you'll probably do more that "tutt" if you get it wrong).

IMG_20190914_115448After refreshments a return to the car park for a photo call, maybe a dog's life isn't too bad after all, some of our number departed at this point with the remaining negotiating the tricky entrance again for the second half.

Heading out of Boroughbridge past Morrisons and through Minskip we made a right to go through Staveley and another right to Copgrove, on through Burton Leonard and reaching the A61 at Wormald Green.  A left and a right took us on to Markington before taking a right turn before reaching Bishop Thornton and riding past Brimham Rocks Country Park.  We then picked up the B6265 turning left to go down into Glasshouses and right into Pateley Bridge.  Over the "bridge" a right turn put us on Low Wath Road, the lovely twisty road past Gouthwaite Reservoir (time for some bend practice), and on to Lofthouse where turning right took us over the top and on to Leighton Reservoir.  A lovely road this eventually meeting to A6108 out of Masham where turning left took us on to the quick squirt up to Brymor and lunch.

A big thank you to Graham for back marker duties, picture of the route below.
