OD Ride #1 - Flamborough Head - Alan Riddington - 20/6/20

Flamborough Head via Pocklington

It was a funny site, Watching Motorcycles lining up on a small Industrial Estate in Pontefract, but with Squires being firmly locked due to the current situation, this was designated as the meeting point for what was the first organised ride for many weeks for YAM & T5 .
2 rides were going on due to group size being restricted to 6 riders per group, Myself electing to lead a ride, and after a brief and refresher on all things Group Riding. Off we go out through Pontefract out to Brotherton and picking up the twisty road out to West Haddlesey, Snaith, Rawcliffe, Airmyn and onto the A63 , before getting on the narrow ( and a tricky,  bumpy, uneven )  lanes to Wressle across to Bubwith, Laytham Melbourne and through to the services at Pocklington and the spacious car park at the rear of KFC

A refreshing coffee for me as we all opened top boxes for our “Snap” break, the tall grass being an alfresco loo, and the excitement of the lane to Wressle ): ): ): ):

Everyone suitably refreshed we mounted up for part 2 to Flamborough Head, and with lovely warm sunshine and dry roads a good pace was kept as we headed out to Millington and up to the A166 then Left down to Thixendale to follow the valley toward Fimber, but taking the Left fork up the hill ( wonderful views of the old quarry on the right ) to pick up the B1248, down to Wharram Le Street before cutting back to Sledmere and then the nicely resurfaced Bridlington Road and out to a very Busy Flamborough Head, car parks and bike parks full, but the Mr Whippy machine was working , Thanks John – a double flake too …....

After a sutible stop for refreshments the group remounted for Tea & Cakes at Fimber, with a trip out of Flamborough to Buckton, Grindale, Burton Fleming before retracing back to Sledmire and through to the Cafe at Fimber, It was packed to the tree tops with Bikes and cars making parking a bit of a free for all, and a sizeable que for Tea and ( by the time we got to the front ) a limited selection of cakes, ( Thanks Steve for the Tea and cake )

We then split up for home / York with a majority choosing to follow me down form Fimber / Thixendale / Leavening and onto the Buttercrambe TT before picking up the A166 again near Stamford Bridge and the A64 for home.

Thanks to John Coe for back marker duties, all the guys who followed me and for making it a good paced, clean, safe ride.

Here is the route:
