About Us

Chorley Advanced Motorists (CAM) is a group of like-minded individuals who have passed IAM RoadSmart’s Advanced Driving Test and are keen to continue to continue to improve our skills and share the safer driving message.  Founded over 35 years ago, we’re a friendly, easy-going crowd who would love to welcome you into our community of advanced motorists.

Our aim is to reduce the killed or seriously injured figures around Lancashire by training drivers to an advanced standard.  Although we have one of the smallest catchment areas of all the IAM RoadSmart groups, we pack a punch in terms of our recruitment and our results.  Our annual “Alive to Drive” event has run in conjunction with our local emergency services for over 10 years and has become a fixture in the local community.

CAM is a registered charity and all our Observers, trustees and other volunteers devote their time (and fuel) for free to share the safer driving message and help people pass the IAM Roadsmart Advanced Driving Test.  Every year we run four courses, coached by our IMI qualified National Observers, with each course lasting up to 12 weeks.  People who come on our courses are Associate Members of the group, and can become full Members once they pass the IAM RoadSmart advanced driving test.

We encourage our Members to continue to develop their driving skills by undertaking further training such as the IAM Masters course, becoming “National” Observers or simply taking advantage of our free yearly members’ refresher drive.

Our newsletter, RoadCAM, is published regularly to keep our members and friends in touch with our activities – check out our newsletter page on this website for examples of recent editions.
