Chris Otter's ride to Lealholm via Yorkshire Gliding Club

Posted on 16/06/23 |

Saturday the 10th of June was a glorious day with hardly a cloud in the sky

Chris took six of us on a wonderful ride taking the scenic route from Squires to Tadcaster , then up towards Boroughbridge picking our way through the glorious Yorkshire country side winding our way passed the Kilburn White horse to the Yorkshire gliding club, for some well deserved refreshments. The club house has recently been renovated and now looks very smart and is a wonderful place to relax whilst enabling you to have a birds10 06 23 2 eye view of the Dales and the Vale of York. Some of us had some very nice butty’s, polished off with good tea or coffee. Unfortunately the couple who run the club house are not able to make it financially viable & therefore they are leaving at the end of June, which is a great shame.

From here Chris guided us passed Rievaulx Abbey up the Helmsley TT with its amazing views, passed Chop Gate to Clay Bank we then headed to the Moors which believe it or not were according to my bike 25 degrees centigrade, which is very rare for the Moors !! The plan was to stop in Lealholm for some lunch at the local café ,however when we arrived we discovered for some weird reason it was only open Mondays to Fridays !!! Luckily a local resident pointed us in the direction of the Board Inn which was just around the corner which did excellent food that was also great value for money. On such a glorious day many of us were tempted to write off the 10 06 23rest of the day and enjoy the brilliant range of local ales they had on tap. Definitely a place worth going back to.

Having resisted the beer we set off across the top of Moors which again gave us all some amazing views to Pickering where some of us split.  After Pickering and close to Malton, Chris took us down a small lane that I did not know existed which nearly took us to Scarborough before crossing the A64 through Wintringham, to Sledmere before finish the day with a refreshing drink at Fimber.

Thanks to Chris for organising a great trip and for Tim being tail end Charlie for most of the trip.

Great to see Mark back on his nearly new Triumph Trophy and it was a shame Pete could not join us while he recovers from his Bionic man surgery.

It always makes a great ride when someone decides to lead a ride and show us off some of their favourite routes, its easy to do and you will always have the full support of your fellow members on the ride ,so please give it a go !!!!
