OD Ride to A59 Cafe 29th August Led by John Coe

Posted on 11/09/20 |
It was quite a blustery day for our meeting point at Monks Cross this Saturday, but at least it was dry.
The five T5'ers , Tim ( sweeper ), John, Nigel, Mark and yours truly, were keen for the adventure that was about to unfold, so, after the brief, as to where we were headed etc., and as it was a bank holiday weekend, to expect a few log jams.
The plan was pretty straight forward covering roads that we were quite familiar with, Northallerton, Bedale, Masham and T & P at Brymor's, the photo only is of the four important T5'ers, social distancing of course. IMG_1134That was the easy ( uneventful as far as log jams ) part, and a fair progress was made even with those buffeting winds to contend with on the open stretches.
The second leg of this adventure, took again a much used routing, not the planned one, down to the amount of rain that had fallen over the previous couple of days, which would, possibly, have made it entertaining for all the wrong reasons.
First up, north toward Leyburn, but cutting across to Wensley, taking a right then a left onto the road that runs parallel to the road to Hawes, past Castle Bolton.
Then south through Aysgarth Falls to  Thoralby and that excellent B6160, leading to Kettlewell, and the expected log jam on the way to Threshfield, there after it was fairly clear to Bolton Abbey, right onto the A59 and the A59 Cafe, which wasn't over populated with fellow bikers, but there the temperature seemed very Autumnal, hadn't noticed during the ride, as, keeping us together was more important.
I only mentioned this as on the way home, it sort of fell apart, more down to my choice of routing to Otley, and the volume of traffic on a narrow road.
Thank you to Tim for being a fabulous sweeper, and to John, Nigel and Mark for their patience on what may have seemed to be a trip down memory lane ( well used routing ).
