Alan Riddington's ride to Manor Farm Cafe via G&T's 3rd September 2022

Posted on 04/09/22 |
At first glance this ride to two regular haunts of Team 5 could be interpreted as a ride on regular familiar roads.  Nothing could be further from the truth when Alan used his seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of North Yorkshires roads to put together a glorious full day ride.

The gloomy weather forecasts for the day probably accounted for a virtually empty bike park at Squires and a fairly low sign up of riders for all three rides of the day, Nevertheless seven riders attended Alan's ride briefing and set off bang on time at 10 o'clock.

Turning right out of Squires and the down to Tadcaster the smaller group found it easier to stay together once the other side of Tadcaster and into the ride proper. heading East first of all via Angram before turning North through Tockwith then on through North Deighton and Spofforth before crossing the A61 and into Burn Bridge. On we travelled through Beckwithshaw and Hampsthwaite, Burnt Yates and Warsill before arriving at our first stop, G&T's near Risplith.

Despite the name only tea, coffee and cakes were consumed before mounting up again for the second part of the ride.  At this stage three of our number left the ride leaving a group of four for the balance of the day.  Leaving G&T's behind we headed throughIMG-20220903-WA0001 Winksley to Kirby Malzead, West Tanfield and then bypassing Bedale through Langthorne and Hackworth before skirting the edge of Catterick.  Onwards then to Catterick Bridge before picking up more familiar roads into Richmond and out the other side down to Bellerby and lunch.

Alan hadn't finished with us yet and after lunch a circuitous route to Brymor for pudding  was envisaged.  From Bellerby a short hop into Leyburn before heading out over Whippendale Bank towards Reeth.  A left turn before Reeth however brought us back over the top to Redmire turning right and then into Aysgarth where a left turn onto the main road turned us back towards Leyburn.  Not far on here though before a right turn in West Witton took us up the tight hairpins of Grassgill Lane and on to Common lane.  A further couple of corners brought us out on the tail end of Coverdale and into Middleham.  From here then it was a straight forward route through Jervaulx to Brymor where  very deserved ice creams were consumed.

A great ride out Alan and one to be remembered thank you.  I should also mention at this point that despite the weather forecast we didn't see a spot of rain all day.  Although some of the roads were dampish we managed to avoid the day's rain.
