Chris Hoare ride to Filey 29th Oct 2022

Posted on 31/10/22 |

Great to see 10 souls who, despite the wet weather, decided to give it a go. It rained on and off as we headed into some of those beautiful lanes where the views are spectacular on a good day, on this ride it was pot luck as to how good the visibility was, but overall it was better than expected. However on some of the small lanes the rain did cause loose gravel to be washed onto the roads, and this combined with fresh wet leaves made the the riding a bit more challenging than I had planned. We all made it to Seaways for a well earned rest and refreshments.

After Seaways the weather improved as we zigzagged our way across some of the less know roads to Filey. We arrived in drizzle but by the time we where all parked up the weather dried up and the sun was desperately trying to breakthrough the clouds. This made having Fish and Chips most enjoyable.

From Filey we headed to the Dalby Forest road which was Britain at it best due to the array of autumnal colours of the leaves on the trees. If someone had told me I was in a forest in Scotland I would have believed them. In Pickering some of the group under time pressures departed home as we head onto Rosedale and up onto the top of the Moors. The low cloud was on and off most of the day and had never caused any issues , however as we headed North from Rosedale it got really thick and the five of left, crawled at a snails pace through the cloud and mist until it broke up as we approached Hutton le Hole. We should have stopped for a coffee break in Hutton le Hole as by the time we made it back to NY 500 ( 4.30 pm ) the Cafe was shut due to lack of demand.

Thanks to Gerry Houston for some excellent back marking ,(I will try to find you a high Vis that fits next time) and for all those who braved and supported me on my first ride as leader.

I am struggling to up load the route but if anyone wants it, let me know and I will mail it to you or transfer via Bluetooth when we next meet, if you have a Garmin
