New Honorary President for YAM

Posted on 16/08/19 |
Dave BarfIt is with great pleasure that York Advanced Motorcyclists announces the appointment of its new Honorary President. Inspector David Barf is a serving police officer with the North Yorkshire police and has been instrumental over the last few years in rolling out the BikeSafe programme which is designed to introduce attendees to advanced riding and encourage them to join the IAM, RoSPA or other similar groups and take the necessary training to achieve advanced rider status. We look forward to having the benefit of Dave's experience in YAM's future development.

Having a long term passion for road safety David passed his advanced car test with the Scunthorpe branch of the IAM in the nineties and his police advanced car and pursuit courses in 2015 with the motorcycle course following in 2016.  After passing his car test he was the publicity officer with the Scunthorpe group but then moved back to North Yorkshire in 2003.  An officer for twenty five years, the last four and a half of those have seen David managing the Major Collision Investigation and Forensic Collision Investigation teams for North Yorkshire Police.  He has recently moved into the post of specialist operations shift inspector seeing him responsible for a shift of Firearms, Roads Policing, Dogs, ANPR and specialist search trained officers.  At present he rides a 1998 Honda VFR 800 but harbours a desire for some American heavy metal in the form of a Harley Sportster… it doesn’t hurt to dream.
