Alan Broom's Ride to a Wet Bingley, 21st August 2021

Posted on 22/08/21 |

Despite a dodgy forecast, after all the rain had stopped before we set off, Symor, Dave, Graham & Jezz, led by myself & backed up by Luke we turned left out of Squires and headed out on pretty dry roads.

If I've learnt anything from this weekend's ride, it's don't be too specific with your briefing. If I hadn't, no one would have known that we weren't supposed to go through Fairburn, although going twice round Lumby roundabout might have been a clue that something was amiss in the navigation department. However no problem by the time we got to Cawood my sat nav and I were back in sync. We progressed well via several familiar & some not so familiar roads to Muddy boots. All dry so far. Symor left us at this point, he may have been the wise one.

From there we set off west, more or less and as we gained altitude & one closed road U turn behind us we headed towards ever darker skies. The bad forecast turned out to be a bit of an understatement, The heavens opened, the roads became like rivers, visibility was very poor so we progressed cautiously until we reached our destination. At this point we all abandoned the plan to visit the 5 rise cafe & headed for our respective homes.
