John Coe's ride to the Cycle Hub at Fryup 9th March 2024

Posted on 12/03/24 |

Well, thank you to those T5 -ers that signed up for Saturday’s ride to Masham for the T&P, and to our destination, Yorkshire Cycle Hub FryUp.

Waiting at Tim’s, Thorpe Arch,… Mike V, David B and Dave B, Ian, Andrew, John, Alan, Mike, Chris, Phil, Mike W, John, Bob and Pete.

Unfortunately, their leader for the day hadn’t been so lucky in arriving at Tim’s in good time, due to a large ride out by a local pony club, making any chance to socialise with the other member's of YAM challenging :-)

Anyway, firstly, thank you to Pete for volunteering to do the duties of back marker / sweeper , that he does so well and makes it look so easy.

The brief, pre ride brief boxed off, which I’m sure, I missed a few points, but it has been awhile, since I’ve attended, let alone led a T5 Adventure.

The route to the T&P was pretty much old hat, from Thorpe Arch, up the Roman Road,IMG_0191 the Aldwark bridge is a much improved crossing, though Alan did notice a loose timber, ….

Asenby, Ainderby Quernhow, Nostrfield took the group to Masham, taking just over the hour, which was quite good as I’d ridden this route a few times and it can be a different beast on a weekend, and with Mothering Sunday on the horizon too.

After the T&P, a few of the group planned to bail out on the way to our destination.

Our routing took a loop around Bedale, and then, another loop avoiding the hustle and bustle of Northallerton, followed by a brief section of the A19 and the off to Carlton-in-Cleveland, then over to Chop Gate for the truly wonderful flowing road, before veering of to Ingeby Greenhow, Castleton and managed a smidgen of a fjord, just before our destination.

IMG_0194Quite busy at the Cycle Hub, but we eventually managed to get fed and watered, Pete managed to bag a table by the log burner and looked quite rosy by the time we left :-)

Chris was good enough to take some of the T5-ers to NY500 for a final pit stop, others had further commitments,… Six Nations rugby for me, with a satisfactory result, surprisingly.

For those that would like to lead,…. there’s support a plenty.

Thank you to those that attended, and for your time in reading this report, and apologies for the lack of a route map etc., but these are well used roads.
