Barry spent over 30 years, starting as a semiconductor designer, and later becoming a Senior Vice President of Philips and Managing Director of NXP UK Ltd. After Philips he became Chief Operating Officer with Plessey in Plymouth working on semiconductor LEDs. A Journey with Ultraleap Ltd
This journey describes the founding and development of a new start-up company in Bristol and its path to engaging with customers in the Automotive market.
Ultraleap Ltd was founded as Ultrahaptics Ltd by two Bristol University graduates in 2015. Since then, the company has grown to over 150 staff and is represented all over the world.
This story describes two key business challenges: Firstly, the starting up and growth of the company, a story of how two MSc and PhD graduates became entrepreneurs, how they raised money and began to engage with major companies in various industrial sectors, including automotive. Secondly, how their ‘first of its kind’ technology developed and became a major interest for Automotive companies and its role in future in-car control and potential safety improvements.
