Klim Seabright Observer Profile

National Observer
IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driver

Observer based in Gloucestershire

Background in Driving

Klim spent 12 years in the engineering industry and he says that this also lead to his interest in driving and a change of career. He was the Production Controller of the hydraulics division for an American company which made very big earth moving equipment.

When US Vice-Presidents came on visits to the UK he was first in line to drive them around the Cotswolds, mainly so that he could drive the powerful posh company cars (Rollers and Jags).

Klim always had an interest in helping young people and left engineering to train as a Careers Advisor at Bristol Polytechnic.

He passed his Advanced Test in 1984 having received a voucher from his soon to be Father in Law. He was never quite sure if he was given the voucher in the interests of his daughter's safety or before he would let him drive his Alvis (which had been completely renovated at the Rolls Royce Apprentice Training School).

He qualified as a Local Observer in 2016 and National Observer in 2017.

Klim enjoys working with all drivers but he admits that he gains great pleasure from a feeling that he may have contributed to the safety of young drivers.

Outside Interests

When he is not driving he plays on the competitive croquet circuit (so the driving comes into that as well). He has captained the Croquet Association Team (The governing body of the sport) against Switzerland, Scotland and Ireland. Bizarrely he also has an international cap for Austria, but that's another quite long story. The World Croquet Federation selected Klim to coach in India, which he found fascinating.
