    Course overview

When you leave town and head for the countryside, you might well believe that the road layouts will be much more straightforward, much quieter, and altogether safer. However, country roads present their own unique range of hazards including blind bends and crests, concealed entrances, agricultural vehicles, and livestock. Drivers often find themselves faced with hazards and challenges they are not used to when away from their ‘home’ environment.

Speed limits are often significantly higher in rural areas than in towns meaning that collisions, when they do occur, can be very serious. In fact, over half of all road fatalities occur in rural areas. Concentration, early observation, and an understanding of the potential for unseen hazards are all crucial for staying safe on country roads.

This module has been designed to help you improve your skills and keep you and your family safer when driving in rural areas, and costs just £49 for 75 minutes' one-to-one on-road training with an IAM RoadSmart expert. Delivered in your own car at a time and place to suit you, it's the perfect way to improve your driving and boost your confidence when driving on country roads.
