IAM RoadSmart scoops silver from Investors in People for its commitment to staff

Posted on 29/01/20 |

IAM RoadSmart, the UK’s biggest independent road safety charity, has achieved the Investors in People accolade at silver level – which is achieved by only a fifth of companies the organisation assesses.

Investors in People (IIP) is a standard for people management which offers accreditation to companies that continually invest in and develop their staff.

IIP looked at nine areas for assessment, seven of which IAM RoadSmart comfortably met the standard in.

These were: leading and inspiring people, empowering and involving people, recognising and rewarding performance, structuring work, building capability, delivering continuous performance, and creating sustainable success.

In the assessment, IAM RoadSmart was said to “show a great deal of self-awareness from the senior management team.”

It continued: “For an organisation going through the Investors in People assessment process for the first time this is a great achievement, which gives a strong platform to grow upon, and one that your whole team should be incredibly proud of.”

IIP found the senior team at IAM RoadSmart are very “open, transparent and approachable.”

It added: “Your people believe that IAM RoadSmart is a great place to work, with everyone we met scoring the charity as a seven or higher out of 10 when we asked them in the interviews. This was also reflected in the survey, with 82% agreeing or strongly agreeing.”

Mike Quinton, IAM RoadSmart Chief Executive Officer, said: “We have a real commitment to keeping and developing staff here – achieving the IIP silver accreditation is not an exercise in box ticking; it’s our way of appreciating that staff are the lifeblood of this charity and making sure our people are happy, productive and stay here for a long time.”

He added: “Our success in securing a silver award is only the start. We will look to build on this recognition and ensure we do even more in future to make IAM RoadSmart a great place to work.”

Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate IAM RoadSmart. Silver accreditation is a remarkable effort for any organisation and places the charity in fine company with a host of organisations that understand the value of people.

“It means that the right principles are in place but more than that, it means people and leaders are making active efforts to make sure that there’s real consistency and everyone in the organisation are feeling the effects.”
