As IAM RoadSmart announces that its Drink Drive Rehabilitation Scheme course has been approved for delivery in key areas of the North of England in what is another mark of the organisation’s increasing influence on road safety in the UK, Lesley Upham announces her tenure as Commercial Director for the charity will come to a close at the end of July.

During her two years in post at IAM RoadSmart and working with CEO Sarah Sillars and the leadership team, Lesley has helped steer the UK’s largest independent road safety charity through a period of significant change. The IAM RoadSmart team have introduced a new name, a new website and a new brand. They have also successfully moved headquarters and are now based in in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

Under Lesley’s leadership the charity has also undertaken a full commercial review of its fleet driver training product range, expanded its highly successful Drink Drive Retraining Academy into new territories and extended its reputation as a provider of expert training within the business community.

Reflecting on the immense changes while she has been in post, Lesley said: “When I joined Sarah and the team at the IAM I knew we were approaching an exciting period of transformation. Two years on and I can honestly say I do not know where the time has gone! We have been through a tremendous transition and I am immensely proud of all that’s been achieved. It’s a great testament to the commitment of all my colleagues and of our members that we’ve taken such great leaps forward. I leave the organisation knowing that that the foundation is in place for even greater progress in the future.”

Echoing Lesley’s positivity for the future, Sarah Sillars comments: “It’s been wonderful working with Lesley over the last two years, and we are grateful for her energy and commitment while she has been in post. In addition to the key projects she has steered to fruition, Lesley’s other important legacy is of course the team she leaves behind her. I have no doubt at all that they will continue Lesley’s good work and bring further exciting developments for IAM RoadSmart.”

Recruitment for a new lead for IAM RoadSmart’s commercial activity is currently underway. An announcement of the appointee will be made by the charity’s leadership team shortly.
